Reconciling with first peoples

26 February 2015

The Salvation Army works with many Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people through our social
service networks. We are committed to closing the
gap on Aboriginal disadvantage and working towards
Reconciliation within our communities.
To Close the Gap, several of our services have developed
good relationships with their local Aboriginal
community through staff cultural training, employing
an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, and partnering with local
Aboriginal organisations. Building trust and relationships
between our staff and members of the Aboriginal
community is essential to making sure Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islanders feel welcome in our services.
